March 15
2007 Natalie Herman from
Paddy-Whacked Radio
reports:
Bell X1 Tour Bus Fire
"Last night, Bell X1 played to
a sold-out crowd at T.T. The Bear’s in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Early this morning, their celebration was
sobered by a fire which broke out in the ventilation and air-conditioning
portion of their ‘95 Eagle tour bus. Deputy Chief Martin Cunniff of the
Medford Fire Department advised that the 911 call came in at 3:37 this
morning and that the band was outside when the fire department arrived. It
took just over an hour to put out the fire and get everything under control.
Chief Cunniff could not confirm whether
anyone was inside at the time that the fire broke out, but nothing on the
incident report indicated any injuries. Luckily, the fire occurred while the
bus was still at the hotel and not while the band was en route to New York
to play their gig tonight.
It was estimated that the fire caused
damages in the amount of $50,000.00 - half the value of the bus - but there
was no mention on the report if there was damage to the band’s equipment or
other personal belongings.
Shawn Fitzmaurice
(Paddy-Whacked Radio) did receive word from someone in contact with the
band that no equipment was damaged and there was only loss of a few personal
belongings.
The Bowery Ballroom has confirmed that
the band is still playing their sold-out show tonight. Tickets are still
available for their add-on show at The Bowery for tomorrow, March 16.
Shawn met with David Geraghty,
keyboardist, guitarist and sometimes vocalist from Bell X1, after the
Cambridge show. Look for more on that meeting in days to come."
November 21
2007 Bell X1 lead singer Paul Noonan will be featured on this week's
episode of Grey's Anatomy (ABC). The plaintive, gorgeous "Some Surprise," a
duet with Lisa Hannigan (known for her stunning collaborations with Damien
Rice), will also be made available on iTunes.
This is not the first major TV placement
for Bell X1. The O.C. used Bell X1's "Eve, Apple of My Eye" as the
soundtrack for the most talked-about moment in the show's history, the
beach kiss between Marissa and Alex.
July 22
2006 Bell X1 play the Festival Big Top, Fisheries Field, Galway as

and a sold out mini-tour of the USA. The hottest young band on the Irish
music scene at the moment with a reputation as amazing live performers, Bell
X1 are at the point in their career where they can seemingly do no wrong.
Building on their reputation abroad and with the release and commercial
success of Flock , Bell X1 are beginning to make a real impact abroad."

September
2005 From
Hotpress.com: "Resourceful as ever, the Hot Press Covert Operations Team
has managed to, er, obtain a pre-release copy of the new BellX1 album,
Flock.
Due on October 14, the tracks stack up as follows:
'Reach Around' - Who's been listening to Joy Division then?
Paul Noonan does his best Ian Curtis impersonation as BellX1
jump on the '80s post-punk bandwagon.
'Flame' - Falsetto vocals, funky basslines and syncopated
beats make for a song that strays into Scissor Sisters
territory. No, really! Add in such playful couplets as "I
want to be near you and blink in your light/And toast
marshmallows on a cold dark night" and Elton John's patronage
is assured.
'Rocky Took A Lover' - An everything including the kitchen
sink relationship song, which with UK radio support could
prove to be their 'Run'.
'He Said She Said' - More retro walking on the dark side,
with a touch of the Goths about Noonan's brooding vocal.
'Bad Skin Day' - A return to more familiar BellX1 territory,
this meanders along pleasantly without ever hitting the
stratospheric highs you want it to.
'Natalie' - The emotional
heat is turned up as Paul, aware that "History is written by
the winners", fights for his love life.
'Bigger Than Me' - We've got a wurlitzer and we're going to
use it! The organ is the only thing that's wobbly about this
hard rocking song, which also boasts some Keith
Richards-style riffing at the end.
'Just Like Mr Benn' - Don't be fooled by the jokey title,
this is the sound of somebody staring heartbreak in the face.
'My First Born For A Song' - Have you ever seen Dave Geraghty
and Jamie Cullum in the same room? We ask because his
piano-playing on this sounds identical to the midget nu-jazz
man's.
'Trampoline' - Apologies for using the C-word, but Flock's
penultimate tracks gives Coldplay a run for their money in
the big ballad department.
'Lamposts' - A 7m 34s epic cast from the same songwriting
mould as 'Eve, The Apple Of My Eye'."

seen, swapping instruments and coming out with such diverse songs; some just
rock like muthafuckers and others are so gorgeous and sentimental, you just
want to wrap them around yourself, like ‘West Of Her Spine’. They do a
wicked ‘Hey Ya’ and Justin Timberlake as well!"

mcd.ie: SNOOP DOGG THE THRILLS AND BELL X1 First Acts Confirmed To
Perform At Meteor Awards 2005
News last updated: 19-01-2005
Meteor & MCD are delighted to announce that Snoop Dogg with his 'rhythm and
gangsta band', The Thrills and Bell X1 will perform at this year's
Meteor Awards, which will be hosted by comedian Ed Byrne in The Point,
Dublin on 24th February 2005.
Snoop Dogg's 20 strong Rhythm and Gangsta band features some of America's
hottest players namely DJ Jam Nash, T Mac Martin, Spud Searight, Monty
Neuble D-Loc Walker, Mardog Williams, New Guy Bruener, JJ Smith, Chubs,
Chooky Caldwell, Quaz Harris, Sugarfree Liemberg and "Watch your lunch"
Washington is expected to be one of the highlights this year's Meteor Awards
Show. As the embodiment of '90s gangsta rap, Snoop Dogg blurred the lines
between reality and fiction. Introduced to the world through Dr. Dre's The
Chronic, Snoop quickly became the most famous star in rap.
The Thrills make a welcome return to 5th Meteor Awards - The band first
played The Meteors in 2003 before they were really famous. "SO MUCH FORTHE
CITY," established The Thrills as among the most refreshing combos of the
day. Now, on their much-anticipated sophomore outing, dubbed "LET'S BOTTLE
BOHEMIA," the Dublin quintet returned with an engaging and eclectic
collection of songs evincing a quickly mounting power and artistry. From the
urgent pop of "Whatever Happened To Corey Haim" and "Saturday Night" to the
sophisticated balladry of "Not For All The Love In The World," the album
sees The Thrills growing by leaps and bounds, expanding their already rich
musical palette and refining their song-writing into something more
intricate and compelling. Bittersweet but still buoyant, "LET'S BOTTLE
BOHEMIA" marks The Thrills' passage from irresistible sunshine-pop
classicists to one of today's most inventive and important young bands and
has earned them nominations in the Best Irish Album and Best Irish Band
categories.
Bell X1, the Dublin based quartet of Paul Noonan, Brian Crosby, David
Geraghty and Dominic Phillips, has made music together in many guises since
the early 90s. The band has been touring solidly since the release of their
second album, Music In Mouth. They have played right around Europe and the
U.S. on their own headline dates (as well as playing special guest to
everyone from Snow Patrol and Damien Rice to Keane). Bell x1 have won a
whole new audience with Music In Mouth as well as accumulating media
accolades throughout 2004. The album was number 3 in Tom Dunne's 'Listeners
End of Year Poll 2003', just ahead of Radiohead beckoning the band into a
year that saw them chosen by RTE as one of only two Irish bands to represent
the country at Eurosonic 2004 in Holland. Bell x1 has been nominated in the
Best Irish Band category.
Sixteen Meteor Ireland Music Awards will be presented this year. The public
are invited to vote for short listed nominees in five categories compiled
from the votes cast by representatives from every area of the Irish music
industry and the Hope for 2005 will be voted by 2FM listeners. Voting
couldn't be easier - you can vote for short-listed nominees in five
categories - Best Irish DJ, Best Irish Band, Best Irish Male Artist Singer,
Best Irish Female Artist Singer and Best Irish Pop Album, by texting 'VOTE'
to 53500 or online by visiting www.meteor.ie. All text votes will cost no
more than 60c across all three Irish networks. Music fans who vote have the
chance to win great weekly prizes including VIP tickets to this year's
Meteor Awards extravaganza and after show party.
Last year's Meteor Ireland Music Awards saw some of the world's top acts
perform including music legend Lionel Richie, Katie Melua, Counting Crows,
The Corrs, Sugababes, Westlife, Hothouse Flowers, The Frames, The Dubliners,
Snow Patrol, Paddy Casey and Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club.
Meteor Ireland Music Awards tickets priced '30 (including booking fee) are
now on sale from ticketmaster and usual outlets nation-wide. Corporate VIP

Bell X1 pen the score for a gripping new drama by an emerging new Cork
playwright.
This Ebony Bird @ Half Moon Theatre
Paul Noonan and Brian Crosby from Bell X1
have created brand new original music for this premiere.
This Ebony Bird, a new and original drama that explores the changing face of
the Irish rural landscape and our sense of community, and examines the
nature of our faith and religious traditions in a fast-changing world, will
receive its world premiere in the Half Moon Theatre on September 13th.
This Ebony Bird is from the pen of exciting new Cork playwright Micheál
Lovett. Staged by Blood in the Alley Productions, this original new work
features well-known RTE presenter and broadcaster Carrie Crowley in a rare
stage role with Martin Lucey and Michael Patric. Original music is by Paul
Noonan and Brian Crosby from leading Irish rock group Bell X1.
Directed by Geoff Gould, the play takes place on the night prior to the
Pope’s visit to Limerick in 1979. Sacristan Batty Spender, played by Martin
Lucey, embarks on a long dark night of the soul with only the voices in his
head for company.
The crisis that is upon him has been hastened by events and occurrences in
his local tight-knit community that make him question his position within
that community, within the church he has served so devotedly, and even his
previously unwavering faith. The crisis that has beset him is expressed by
the twin voices of Benson and Hedges played respectively by Michael Patric
and Carrie Crowley.
As the 25th anniversary of the Pope’s visit to Ireland approaches, This
Ebony Bird offers a topical, comical, yet wholly convincing snapshot of an
Ireland that has all but disappeared and hints at imminent changes that will
ultimately transform this country beyond recognition.
Faithful servant Batty Spender has heard a lot of things he shouldn’t have
heard and has seen a lot of things he shouldn’t have seen. Now he needs to
tell someone. Micheál Lovett, who hails from Kilworth in Co Cork, takes us
inside the strange and compelling world of Batty Spender.
Blood in the Alley Productions is delighted to announce the world premiere
of this powerful new drama from a new and original voice in Irish theatre.
This Ebony Bird plays at the Half Moon Theatre, Cork Opera House throughout
September.

BENEFIT GIG FOR VICTIMS OF BAM EARTHQUAKE
VICAR ST TO HOST DUBLIN’S MUSICAL RESPONSE
On Wednesday January 28th, Vicar St will host a concert to mark the Dublin
music community’s response to the earthquake which devastated the Iranian
city of Bam on St. Stephen’s Day, killing over 40,000 people.
The night will include solo performances from Lisa Hannigan, Paul
Noonan (Bell X1), Steve and Joe Wall, cellist Vyvienne Long, the Tycho
Brahe, Shakram Music and Dance Company and other special guests.
All proceeds from the gig will go to
support the work of Belfast-based “Save the Children” which has a special
project working with children who have been left homeless or orphaned by the
disaster. It is estimated that over 80% of the city was destroyed in the
earthquake and besides the devastating loss of life, caring for the
survivors is a major concern with no proper buildings, food supplies or
sanitation. Tens of thousands of people are now living in tents or makeshift
dwellings, enduring the sub-zero temperatures of an Iranian winter.
The night is being organised by Tanja Raab and Damien Rice drummer, Tomo who
were drawn to the plight of the citizens of Bam.
“One thing that best exemplifies the plight of the children of Bam is the
realisation that thousands of children have been orphaned by the disaster”
said Tanja. “To make matters worse, Bam’s only orphanage collapsed in the
quake, killing 54 of the 60 children sleeping inside,” said Tomo.
Tickets for the gig will go on sale Tuesday the 13th from Road Records,
Sound Cellar, City Disk, Claddagh Records and Ticketmaster outlets
nationwide, priced at €28.

The song, a Phantom FM favourite for some time now, has been unavailable in the shops to date and no doubt, there will be hordes of rabid fans queuing up for a copy."
"And it won't be long after that before the album, Neither Am I, is in the shops, as Paul Noonan & Co. prove they're not superstitious with a release date of Friday, October 13th."
"The Bell X-1 lads aren't afraid to experiment either, letting top Dublin DJ Johnny Moy have his wicked way with 'Man On Mir'. Moy created a kick-ass remix of the song which is currently wowing all and sundry on your favourite music station."
