Mark Coghlan, hotpress.com:
"Seize The Day is like one big history book. Damien Dempsey talks of the good, the bad and the ugly of Irish society. Sometimes the lyrics are harsh but they’re also always very real. He sings with a passion I can only compare to Stevie Wonder. It’s a rarity these days to find music so full of emotion. ‘Factories’ is sung with a rawness that stands those hairs on the back of your neck up; along with other classics such as the uppity ‘It’s All Good’ and the very true ‘Marching Season Siege’ which sums up the feeling of many in this country regarding marching season in the North, it makes for a modern Irish classic."

January 26 2005 Hot Press: "With his highly anticipated album set for March release, Damien Dempsey has announced a series of live dates around the country

There's also an updated version of 'Colony', which appeared on Dempsey's long-since deleted debut, They Don't Teach This Shit In School.
Shots gets a live airing when he plays The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton (March 11); Dolan's, Limerick (12 & 13); Radisson Hotel, Galway (14); Vicar St., Dublin (16 & 17); Ten, Waterford (19); Savoy, Cork (20); Royal Theatre, Castlebar (23); and Empire, Belfast (24)."

August 2003 "Massive Contribution On Sinéad album"
It's official! Massive Attack will feature on the next album by Sinéad O'Connor. The collaboration is a cover of a track called 'It's All Good' that was originally recorded by Irish contemporary folk-artist Damien Dempsey. The album is out on September 9th.
This collaboration is no news for Massive fans. We first heard about this track in December 2001, and apparently it was recorded during the '100th Window' sessions but didn't make it to the final cut.
It now looks like the track will surface
after all on Sinéad's forthcoming double album 'She Who Dwells in the Secret Place of the Most High Shall Abide Under the Shadow of the Almighty'. Click here to read more about the album.
There is also supposed to be a demo-recording of this track floating around. The track was available long before '100th Window' was released, and is briefly described as "very dark" (surprisingly enough).
The original track first appeared on Damien Dempsey's first album 'They Don't Teach This Shit In School' in 2000. The track was then re-recorded for his second album 'Seize the Day' released earlier this year, seemingly with Sinéad on backing-vocals.
The story is that Sinéad loves the song so much that she suggested she did it with Massive Attack for '100th Window'. Apparently she's a major fan of Damien; "Luke Kelly and all those people - they were good, but I think Damien just wipes the floor with them".
Damien Dempsey is (according to damiendempsey.com) "a 26 year old singer/songwriter whose body of work to date is an intricate, hard-hitting social commentary born of the streets of Dublin and coloured by his experiences in New York and London. His unique sound draws from a wide range of influences including traditional Irish, Sean Nos, Bob Marley and Elvis.".

July 2003 irismagazine.net: "Mozza Likes Damo: Morrissey is the latest high-profile figure to voice his approval of Damien Dempsey. Speaking in an interview with The Manchester City Life, the former Smiths vocalist said; “I like the Damien Dempsey CD a lot - especially ‘Ghosts Of Overdoses’ and ‘Industrial School’.” "

July 2003 Damien plays the Galway Arts Festival:
"27 year old singer songwriter Damien Dempsey's voice is uniquely down to earth, but totally affecting and his sound reflects the influence of traditional Irish Sean-Nós as well as his musical heroes, Bob Marley and Elvis Presley.
They Don’t Teach This Shit In School, his debut album, was released in 2000 and established Damien as a fearless and confrontational songwriter. His second album Seize the Day has just been released on Clear Records."
“It’s angry, it’s humorous, it’s great music, it’s great lyrics…he describes the way things really are - which is a pile of shit - But then he also sees the beauty that is Ireland, and that is Ireland’s past and that can be Ireland’s future.” Shane MacGowan
