May 2005 Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan are releasing a special single, "Unplayed Piano" on 17 June on DRM. The single is already picking up play here and has been added to UK playlists on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 and XFM.
They wrote the song specially for the 60th birthday of Burmese Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi who is currently imprisoned by the military regime in Burma. With her birthday coming up on 19 June, all profits from the single (which will be released internationally) will go to support the US Campaign For Burma and the Burma Campaign UK. Damien has also announced 2 live shows (in London and Paris) in June in aid of the Assistance Association of Political Prisoners in Burma www.aappb.net.
"I prefer not to interfere too much with what is going on in the world," Damien has commented. "But when someone has been thrown into a hole and they ask you to throw down a rope, I am happy to look for a rope - especially for a woman of such grace."
More information on the Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign is available from www.actionburm.com.

May 12 2005 Hot Press: "Damien Rice and longtime musical partner Lisa Hannigan have announced details of their involvement in the 'Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign'.
Their new single, 'Unplayed Piano', was written as a tribute to Aung San Suu Kyi, following a visit by Rice to Burma in June of last year.
As the leader of Burma's democracy movement - and the world's only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient - Suu Kyi has been under house arrest since May 2003, and is now the subject of a global human rights campaign to be freed on her 60th birthday, June 19.
Rice and Hannigan will release their single on June 20, and are donating all royalties from the sales of this record to supporting the US Campaign for Burma and the Burma Campaign UK.
Additionally, the Irish artists will play a series of European shows to highlight the 'Free Aung San Suu Kyi' campaign, with tickets for the London Palladium concert on sale today via gigsandtours.com, priced from £22.
Damien Rice will donate all profits from the tour to the AAPPB (Assistance Association of Political Prisoners in Burma), with details of the European dates expected to be announced later in the week.
To learn more about campaign activities taking place in Ireland, visit the Burma Action Ireland website."

February 28 2005 "O" was voted No.2 in Hot Press People's Choice Top 100 Irish albums of all-time.
Lorraine Keane on O
"Damien Rice’s O is a timeless record. Like Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks (or Moondance or St. Dominic’s Preview for that matter) it will still be featuring in ‘all-time best record’ polls in twenty years. The placement of ‘Blower’s Daughter’ in Closer does more for the film than the film does for the song. Very few people can get away with singing the most simplistic lyric (e.g. “I can’t take my eyes of you”), but Damien Rice gives the words a whole new meaning because he sings with more soul and conviction than an entire album’s worth of ‘heartfelt’ lyrics. It’s beautifully produced – lots of quiet moments and space, which suits both the songs and his voice perfectly. It’s almost impossible to choose between the U2 albums, but I would have to put Achtung Baby at number one, mainly because of ‘One' and ‘Love Is Blindness’. When watching Lost In Translation recently I was so impressed by the soundtrack that I had to dig out MBV’s Loveless again and listen to it. For an album that was so influential with hordes of ‘flavour of the month’ guitar bands, it hasn’t dated at all and still sounds as atmospheric and epic as ever."
Margaret Gordon, hotpress.com
"The quality of the lyrics is the most important aspect of any song. They should tell you something you want to hear, over and over again, and Damien Rice whispers, narrates, colludes and remembers for us all stories and memories that we can share."
Deirdre Coy, hotpress.com
"From the softness of ‘Delicate’, the full-blown extravagence of ‘Eskimo’ to the strange and enthralling drunkenness of ‘Cheers Darlin'’, it’s a diverse and wonderful record. The tracklisting, artwork and Lisa’s beautiful vocals only add extra greatness to a truly fantastic record that I think is the best album of all time."
Shane O’Driscoll, hotpress.com
"O was one of those albums that completely changed the way I listened to music. His voice and lyrics revealed someone with no fear of speaking his mind, letting everyone delve into his most personal, painful or private memories and experiences. The sheer beauty and unpretentious nature of the songs makes them easily accessible and personal from the first to the last. Lisa Hannigan’s beautiful voice perfectly complements Damien’s, and the accompanying chilling strings, wonderfully understated drums and backing vocals throughout the album make for a truly enlightening experience. A stunning debut album, a truly unique and wonderful voice, a reason to listen to music..."

December 9 2004 In 2005, Visit Ireland and Fall in Love with GOLDFISH MEMORY Coming Exclusively to DVD on January 18, 2005
2-Disc Set Includes 18-Track Soundtrack Featuring 3 Songs by Damien Rice
SAN JOSE, CA —Wolfe is excited to introduce Liz Gill’s Irish omnisexual romantic comedy GOLDFISH MEMORY to home video as a 2-disc set, including the feature film on DVD and a CD soundtrack featuring Irish rock and pop artists, such as Damien Rice. This popular festival hit, which won the Audience Award for Best Feature at Los Angeles’s Outfest, takes a sweet look at the love lives of a group of young Dubliners.
Written and directed by Liz Gill, who previously assisted Martin Scorsese and Todd Haynes, GOLDFISH MEMORY is a light-hearted look at the dangers and delights of dating in contemporary Dublin. When Clara sees her boyfriend Tom kissing Isolde, it sets off a chain reaction of romances and heartbreaks until the entire cycle has turned full circle, each character trying to solve the pressing question of what is the perfect relationship. Some favor marriage, others a week-at-a-time arrangement. The only thing they can all agree on is that love is the one thing we can’t live without. Falling in love, out of love and making the same mistakes all over again - all of us say we learn from heartbreak, but how many of us really change? And do we want to? Exploring the comical nature of love, straight, gay and in-between, GOLDFISH MEMORY brings life to the saying what goes around, comes around...and around...and around...
The DVD edition of GOLDFISH MEMORY will be accompanied by an 18-track soundtrack on CD. The film features songs by Bossa Nova impresario Antonio Carlos Jobim, best known for the song “The Girl From Ipanema.” For the film, producers enlisted Ireland’s up-and-coming rock and pop artists to cover Jobim’s songs. The soundtrack is led by 2004 Shortlist Music Award winner Damien Rice, who, along with Lisa Hannigan, covers the songs “Waters of March,” “Desafinado,” and “Once I Loved.” In addition, Rice’s single “Cold Water” is used throughout the film as a theme for the character of Angie. The soundtrack also includes 5 songs by The Walls, and songs by The Frames, NPB, Messiah J & the Expert, Sinead Lohan, Nina Hynes and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Dear all
Damien is collaborating with French film maker Ryan Le Garrac in to make his first documentary DVD penciled for release early next year.
We are now welcoming submissions of your videos, photos, and audio recordings for possible inclusion in this documentary. We are especially interested in ‘old’ film footage, (including while Damien was in Juniper and any footage of the band members in other performances) interesting moments & perhaps ‘rare’ moments. PAL versions of vhs/mini dv/dvd/hi 8/super 8 would all be welcome and we can also accept film...super8, 8mm, 16mm, 32mm etc. We are also interested in ‘old’ audio footage and older, interesting photos too.
Another thing we’re keen to find is copies of any clear photocopies or scans of ‘drawings’ done by Damien & the band. They sometimes “sketch” little pics for signatures on cd sleeves – and we are looking for some of the these drawings for a possible use on a dvd artwork for release.
By registering your submission of any of the above, it confirms your approval for the material (or part of the material) to be possibly used in the making of the dvd. You waive any rights that you may have IN/TO the material.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL COPIES OF ANYTHING AS WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN IT. SEND A SIGNED COPY WITH YOUR DETAILS (NAME, ADDRESS, TEL NUMBER AND EMAIL ADDRESS) CLEARLY MARKED ON IT.
WE ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSS/MISPLACEMENT FOR ANY MATERIAL SUBMITTED. YOU MUST BE OVER 18 TO ENTER
All submissions should be sent to this address: DRM, PO Box 9413, Dublin 16, Ireland. Submissions will be accepted up until the end of September 2004.

January 9 2004 BENEFIT GIG FOR VICTIMS OF BAM EARTHQUAKE VICAR ST TO HOST DUBLIN’S MUSICAL RESPONSE
On Wednesday January 28th, Vicar St will host a concert to mark the Dublin music community’s response to the earthquake which devastated the Iranian city of Bam on St. Stephen’s Day, killing over 40,000 people.
The night will include solo performances from Lisa Hannigan, Paul Noonan (Bell X1), Steve and Joe Wall, cellist Vyvienne Long, The Tycho Brahe, Shakram Music and Dance Company and other special guests including Damien Rice (now confirmed).
All proceeds from the gig will go to support the work of Belfast-based “Save the Children” which has a special project working with children who have been left homeless or orphaned by the disaster. It is estimated that over 80% of the city was destroyed in the earthquake and besides the devastating loss of life, caring for the survivors is a major concern with no proper buildings, food supplies or sanitation. Tens of thousands of people are now living in tents or makeshift dwellings, enduring the sub-zero temperatures of an Iranian winter.
The night is being organised by Tanja Raab and Damien Rice drummer, Tomo who were drawn to the plight of the citizens of Bam.
“One thing that best exemplifies the plight of the children of Bam is the realisation that thousands of children have been orphaned by the disaster” said Tanja. “To make matters worse, Bam’s only orphanage collapsed in the quake, killing 54 of the 60 children sleeping inside,” said Tomo.
Tickets for the gig will go on sale Tuesday the 13th from Road Records, Sound Cellar, City Disk, Claddagh Records and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide, priced at €28.

The Shortlist Concert, presented by MTV 2, featured live performances from eight of the ten Shortlist Finalists: The Streets, Cat Power, The Black Keys, Cody ChesnuTT, Floetry, Interpol, and a set by Rice and his four piece band.
The Shortlist Music Project was founded in 2001 to honour the year's most adventurous and creative albums across all genres of music, focusing on emerging and underground artists rather than established stars. Each year, the finalists for the prize are selected by a panel of musicians and music experts, which this year included Coldplay singer Chris Martin, Tom Waits, Flea, Tori Amos, Perry Farrell and directors Spike Jonze and Cameron Crowe.

July 26 1999 cluas.com: "One artist who has gone the whole Irish Rock route and rejected it is Damien (AKA Dodima), late of Juniper. The man has gone solo, and now wants to be a 'boy with a guitar' once more. This is just what he did at a series of low key dates in veggie restaurant Cornucopia, in June and July. At these he played a few songs from his days with the band, as well as many new songs. The songs have the unbeatable mixture of meaningful lyrics and killer tunes. Damien will continue on his quest to find himself again on his upcoming tour of Europe, so it might be a while before he plays Dublin again. It is possible there will be an EP of home and live recordings released later in the year, keep tuned."
