Monday April 25 - Thursday April 26: Ellison9 record a session for 2FM.

"The Dublin 8 piece rock band in an exclusive session.

Fronted by Derrick Devine on guitar/vocals, Dublin-based rock band ellison9 derived their name from (amongst other things) a care unit in an American hospital for people with serious heart defects.

Counting acts such as Calexico, Nick Cave, Elliott Smith and dEUS amongst their influences, ellison9's sound places quiet, gently plucked guitar numbers alongside louder, angrier moments. Dark, intelligent lyrics and melodies combine with off-kilter guitar lines, bass, drums, violins and even the occasional blast from an orchestral trumpet.

Since forming in late 2003, the band has slowly built up loyal following, playing memorable gigs to full house in top live venues in Dublin and across the country.

In May 2004 the band released their debut E.P. 'Go Down' to wide-spread critical acclaim. Songs from the record received considerable airplay from the national radio stations as well as being play listed on a number of local stations around the country."

Formerly singer-songwriter Derrick Devine and his band, Ellison 9 are an 8-piece rock band based in Dublin.

Fronted by Devine on lead vocals with Sorcha Brennan on harmony vocals, their sound has been compared to the likes of Calexico, Deus, Sparklehorse and Nick Cave. Dark, intelligent lyrics are backed up by drums, bass, keyboards, off-kilter guitar lines, distorted violin and the occasional perfectly weighted blast from an orchestral trumpet.

The band is currently recording a mini-album which is set for independent release in April 2004.

September 2003
DERRICK DEVINE is a singer-songwriter from Dublin. Having successfully released two (mostly) acoustic records (EP - 'charge' and single 'take care') in 2002, he recently went out, found some like-minded musicians, bought an electric guitar and began writing rock tunes.

To showcase his louder, rockier material, Devine decided to form ELLISSON in August '02. A 9 (yes, nine) strong Dublin-based out-fit, the band's sound could be said to have touches of Deus, Sparklehorse, Nick Cave, Calexico and Elliot Smith about it.

Currently recording in db studios in Dublin, their debut E.P.' new skin' will be released independently in the New Year.

Derrick will continue to do his own singer / songwriter music, and play sporadically with local musicians

Devine's single 'take care' and E.P. 'Charge' are out now.
