" 'Magic Nights At The Lobby Bar' which is a collection of 53 artists recorded live in the Lobby Bar in Cork city during 2005 as part of the capital of culture celebrations."

" "Cork Live 2005" - "Magic Nights in the Lobby Bar", a triple CD set, of original music from Cork, was launched in The Half Moon Theatre on 6th June 2006.The compilation features 53 original acts from Cork, or based in Cork during 2005. The idea of a compilation album reflecting the quality and diversity of original music emanating from Cork City and its environs during European Capital of Culture Year, was first suggested in 2004 by the directors of Cork 2005: European Capital Of Culture. The proposal developed from a public call for proposals involving the music sector. The Lobby was commissioned to record, live in The Lobby, a compilation album presenting, in as broad a way as possible, a snapshot in time of contemporary music culture in Cork in 2005. "Magic Nights In The Lobby Bar" could not possibly cover the full rich diversity of original musicians on Leeside. It does present a sample of the vast range of creative musical talent - a cross-section drawn from Cork's finest traditional, folk, contemporary and rock exponents and writers. All of the tracks in this collection were recorded live in The Lobby during January/February and June/July 2005. Each artist / band was limited to one track on the compilation, with one exception John Spillane, who also supplies the title track. Artists on the compilation include, Louis de Paor, Stanley Super800, Karl Nesbitt, Mick Flannery, Clare O'Mahony, Ant'o, John Leo Carter, Niall Connolly, Karan Casey, Caoimhin Vallely, Buille, Billy Mangan, Red Sea Pedestrians, Elephant and Ger Wolfe."

The Festival and CD gives an opportunity to aspiring local musicians to play alongside successful well-known artists.
