Ireland is a country synonymous with music and eclectic song. Today the Irish music scene is at its most vibrant, with an array of immense talent and styles emerging. The mood on Irish Streets is one of independence; the Bands are doing it for themselves and the audiences have never been more excited. The Tupelo Tapes is the first in a series of Irish compilations available on Vitaminic. This exclusive compilation will give a very real flavour of the indie music scene in Ireland and the artists selected will range from well established bands/ artists on the circuit to newcomers busy raising profiles and building loyal followings. Some news on some of the artists featuring on the Tupelo Tapes: Mundy, having released an EP and a single on his own label, is due to shortly record a new album. "The Diamond Mountain Sessions Presents..." is a global collection of roots/folk music featuring time-worn traditional songs together with compositions by contemporary writers from America, Australia, Scotland, England and Ireland. The idea for this album arose during the recording of Sharon Shannon's quadruple-selling "Diamond Mountain Sessions" album in Galway in 1999. Some of these tracks come from those very sessions, blending with the burgeoning writers on the current music scene. The result is a wonderful collection of the very best in traditional & contemporary musical poetry.
The concept will be taken a step further with a live tour following the release, featuring a number of these artists. The tour will include some very special shows in Ireland and the Celtic Collections Festival in Scotland.

These artists include The Corrs, The Saw Doctors, Mundy, The Frames, Luka Bloom, The Waterboys, and many more. The launch of this CD will take place on Saturday 4th March with a concert featuring a number of the artists performing on the album including The Revs, The Pale, Q, Traic and The Fuschia Band. All profits from the night and the CDs will be donated to Concern to help with educational projects in Mozambique (last year Seachtain na Gaeilge raised €20,000 for Mozambique and this year we believe that they can double the amount with your help!). Seachtain na Gaeilge runs from 4th to 17th March. CEOL ’06 will be available from Concern and from music shops from Friday, 3rd of March."

"It is not just Irish speakers who
have an interest in the language. For the past three years Seachtain na
Gaeilge has undertaken an interesting and imaginative project - the CDs
Snag '05, Ceol '06 and Ceol '07 . Three music compilations with tracks
from famous groups such as Bell X1, the Corrs, Mundy, Declan O'Rourke,
the Sawdoctors, the Frames some translated from English, others written
in our native tongue.
It is evident from this that love for the language is spreading among
some of Ireland's best known musicians. Irish is not the primary
language of most of these acts but they took part because of an interest
in our culture. As well as that they have seen Concern's vital and
tireless work with some of the world's poorest people and by giving
their time free of charge they ensure that all profit goes towards
improving standards of education in Mozambique.
Seachtain na Gaeilge will be continuing with this project again in 2008
with a new CD Ceol '08 all proceeds from this album will benefit the
charity Barnardos. To focus attention on music in Irish, we ask people
to buy this CD and to ask radio stations up and down the country to play
your favourite songs from it as often as possible. If you have new ideas
for the CD and how to improve it please contact ceol@snag.ie. Also, if
you feel you can help us in any way by for example spreading the word in
your school, youth club or university, don't hesitate to contact us!
