This event is part of Amnesty International’s Women’s Day Festival, an exciting festival which will combine culture, campaigning and craic to mark International Women's Day which is in Temple Bar from the 4th to the 8th of March.

A demonstration from Curved St at 6.00 on Tuesday the 8th to the Dail will demand the government do all it can to stop violence against women in Ireland.

Amnesty International launched its worldwide campaign to stop violence against women in March 2004. Violence against women takes many forms: violence in the family, including domestic violence, female genital mutilation, rape as a weapon of war, forced marriage and dowry deaths. Together, these many and varied issues add up to one of the greatest human rights scandals of our time.

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognised human rights to be respected and protected. Amnesty International is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. It does not support or oppose any government or political system, nor does it support or oppose the views of the victims whose rights it seeks to protect. It is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights. Amnesty International has more that 1.5 million members in over 150 countries and is funded largely by its worldwide membership and public donations.

Joe Chester - "A Murder Of Crows" - OUT: FEB 25th 2005

BACKGROUND:
In the mid 90's I put out some records under the name "the sound of bells". I was also a member of Sunbear. I drifted in production, working with people like Dr Millar, Miriam Ingram, Nick Kelly, Nina Hynes, Sack and the Future Kings of Spain. Became a member of Nina Hynes' touring band for a couple of US tours.

In the US I met Tenspeedracer and decided to join them. This was 2000. We set up a recording studio and writing space on a farm in Wexford and lived there till June 2004. We released 2 albums, 2 EP's and lots of singles from there on Red Flag Records. Playlisted on BBC Radio 1, charted in Ireland etc.

Started work on a solo album in 2002. In June last year Tenspeedracer split up and I moved back to Dublin to finish it. Sent Tom Dunne the demos and he as been very supportive since.

TRACKLISTING:
  1. A murder of Crows
  2. How you wish you feel
  3. Charlie for a girl

"Without a band, Nina took the bare stage and filled it with comfortable confidence and the thick, cozy expressions coming from her wonderfully soothing and beautifully intense voice."

"It's very fresh to see an artist on stage that belongs on stage, totally natural in their environment. From the very first note, you were locked in until that sonic movie was over with the credits rolling."

"It was simply captivating, from the smooth layering of her multiple guitars, to the pre-recorded electronic loops (and let me tell you, tasty loops they where, and far from the Japanese culture of karaoke - well done Nina) from her CD player sitting on a stool next too her."

"A ghostly track called "Dive" put her over the top in conquering the room with music fans that had never heard of her, prior to this night. And that right there, is what its all about in spreading the love."
