The Universal - Pelvis
"I suppose our outlook could be summed up by Homer Simpson when he drooled "Rockstars...is there anything they don't know?"
Jonny Rowen (Vocals, Bass Guitar) and Ed Reynolds (Guitar) met in Dublin through mutual friends, almost fifteen years ago. After discovering they had similar musical tastes they formed a band and played "terrible cover versions" in pubs. After a while they got a four-track and began writing and recording songs of their own.
Ed says, "We always had a strong sense of belief in what we were writing, regardless of how simple or scattered the actual songs sounded. We always felt we were on the brink of world domination and stardom."
Ed was right, fame and fortune were just around the corner, for less than a month later, Pelvis were offered a support slot in a fund-raising music night at the local church! Drummer Mick Goss joined the band in time to play at this first gig.
Jonny says, "We were given a weeks notice to rehearse 20 songs, so we set off practising like madmen in Mick's flat, much to the annoyance of the other tenants, except Mick's next door neighbour who kept hassling us for a go of the drum kit, telling us how he used to play in a Cabaret band until the gargle got the better of him..."
The gig was "a half hour fumbling jumble of humiliation and embarrassment" (Jonny) "with a cringe factor of fifty" (Mick). However Jonny, Ed & Mick agree that the experience laid the foundations for Pelvis as they are today, it was the beginning of the journey.
Pelvis are inspired by "Girls - we think they're great!...Hope, wishful thinking and optimism...The break-up, the make-up, the missing her, hating her bit...Musical and personal exploration, discovery and individuality."
"Where there's life, there's hope and there's definitely both in our music."
