Setanta Records - "Streetlight" "Streetlight" was written one spring morning in my sunshine-filled kitchen on an acoustic guitar. I had always wanted to write a mellow love song, something that captured the feeling of a day spent with someone you are simply head over heels about. "Streetlight" is a dreamy love song, a Summer song in Winter, because that's when dreams of Summer begin, when you're standing on the corner blowing into your stiff, blue fingers, trying to rub some heat on them...Streetlight". "Streetlight" is a narrative love song with minimal, humble instrumentation - kept simple, soft and honest by a great melody.
Setanta Records - "Hang My Hat" The second single from Dublin three-piece Pelvis, "Hang My Hat" is released by Setanta Records on 6th April. Author Jonny Rowen, when asked to describe the song, said it's about "all the good intentions in the world versus reality." "Hang My Hat" is released on CD and 7" on Monday 6th April, catalogue number SET047.
muse.ie - "Who Are You Today?" It's no surprise that Dublin three-piece Pelvis should be subject to much media and industry speculation. Frontman Jonny Rowen is brother to the fresh-faced young boy who adorned U2's iconic "Boy" and "War" album sleeves. The much sought-after talents of Flood are in place as executive producer and another U2 gang member Rob Kirwan is the actual producer. But whoever does what, someone is doing something right. Not surprisingly, "Who Are You Today?" is a very produced record and from the opening creepy analogue vibe of "Hang My Hat" to the orchestrated splendour of "Mistakes", Pelvis dramatically transform from a cheesy, try-too-hard pop band to a strange studio entity. Of course, the above compliment is not to suggest that Pelvis aren't still capable of hamming up a pomp pop-rock din. "15 Seconds of Fame" for example is fairly cruddish and all those scary images of tartan suits hit you like a nasty flashback if you've ever encountered them live. Nevertheless, songs like the delicate "What Makes You Dance?" and the constant array of fluent orchestration courtesy of Divine Comedy arranger Joby Talbot redeem the Pelvis dignity and could possibly buy them some time until the next, hopefully more consistent, record. talfanzine.com - "Who Are You Today?" Who Are You Today? (Setanta) Dublin trio, Pelvis, are another band who have the potential to be massive. A small band but with big sounds, there’s loads of strings and orchestral background. Well worth a listen.
