February 2005 RMG Chart: Joe Chester - "A Murder Of Crows" - OUT: FEB 25th 2005
BACKGROUND: In the mid 90's I put out some records under the name "the sound of bells". I was also a member of Sunbear. I drifted in production, working with people like Dr Millar, Miriam Ingram, Nick Kelly, Nina Hynes, Sack and the Future Kings of Spain. Became a member of Nina Hynes' touring band for a couple of US tours.
In the US I met Tenspeedracer and decided to join them. This was 2000. We set up a recording studio and writing space on a farm in Wexford and lived there till June 2004. We released 2 albums, 2 EP's and lots of singles from there on Red Flag Records. Playlisted on BBC Radio 1, charted in Ireland etc.
Started work on a solo album in 2002. In June last year Tenspeedracer split up and I moved back to Dublin to finish it. Sent Tom Dunne the demos and he as been very supportive since.

January 2005 Hot Press: Former Ten Speed Racer man Joe Chester returns to live duty on March 3 with a show in Whelan's.
The Dubliner will be plugging his debut solo album, A Murder Of Crows, which has found instant favour with Tom Dunne.
It's being released by BARP, the intriguingly monikered label that's co-owned by Damien Rice's manager Bernadette Barrett.

The track soared to 18 in the mid-week charts and finally came to rest at 26 this morning.
Things seem to be looking up for the band with previous single "Your Demon Heart" being a huge hit amongst Dublin's rock fans."

August 2003 Hot Press: "10 Speed Racer have scored something of a coup by having Vaughn Oliver design the cover of their new single 'Fifteen'."
"Responsible for all of the Pixies and Cocteau Twins artwork, Oliver has also come up with the visuals for the Dubliners' album which follows in September."
"Renowned for being extremely choosy about what he does, he agreed to come on board after a personal call from the band."

April 2002 TENSPEEDRACER have released a new EP entitled 'Girls And Magazines' on Red Flag Records. This is what NME had to say
'Dubliner's Ten Speed Racer may be staring into the dirty waters of the Liffey, but in their hearts they are bathed in the glow of a thousand Californian summers. Lead track ' Don't go out' has the melodic sensibilities of teenage Fanclub or Travis but dig deeper and there's a whole goldmine of drunken horn sections and angry guitars. A winner." JW, NME

2002 TENSPEEDRACER have released their 'Eskimo Beach Boy' album in the US. College radio has begun to warm to it, while reviews are starting to pour in. It's been called "one of the year's best" by Irish music mags and newsy types. Virtually Alternative in the US describe it as "a vivacious mix of sonically charged guitars, ethereal melodies and intelligent vocals."
