Introduction
Alphastates were an Irish indie/electronica act with a sound based around Dowling's distinctive vocals and a strong melodic backing. Catherine Dowling and Gerry Horan first played together in 2001, Alphastates first release was a single 'Sometimes' which they actually penned as part of their previous band Babelfish.
Delivered in a strangely emotional and engaging, yet nonchalant way, Dowling's vocals are breathy, catching in her throat as she delivers knowing and worldly tales. Added to the unique sexy vocals is a multi-layered, delicately creative and innovative musical backdrop creating a really special sound.
Certainly one of the most original and distinctive acts to emerge in recent times.
